To continue on with Memorial Day weekend and "Stay Close to Home Week" Ky and I went to check out San Gabriel Park
in Georgetown. It is a pretty decent sized park with several play areas
for kids, a couple of shallow water areas and a lot of ducks. Ky was
immediately interested when we got out of the car because of all the
ducks and geese hanging out by a bridge that crossed the river. We
steered clear of them and headed along the river through the park to see
what we could see. For a bit of the walk the bank was too high for Ky
to jump in so we kept walking. The park wasn't very crowded for a
holiday weekend. Finally we came across a little area of water that must
have a spring that fed into the river. Some little boys were playing
there and we stopped to talk to them. They liked Kyleigh. We proceeded
along and ran across a couple more spring fed riverlets that had what
looked like ruins of small buildings at their head. There were pavilions
that were topped with vine plants and eventually we made it to a dam.
There were several people lounging around the dam.
Ky got in the water
for a little bit but some of the people had a dog that was not
interested in us being around so we left.
On the way back I decided to
go look for the Georgetown dog park
that was supposed to be nearby. We had to go back the way we came and
cross the bridge where the ducks were. As we were trying to cross the
small bridge a little boy came up to us and wanted to show us a baby
bird that he had in his hands. He was standing in the way and I was
worried that Ky might make a lunge for the bird. Luckily his dad called
him away. I had to pull out my new phone and use the gps to find the dog
park. It wasn't as close as I thought it was, but still within walking
distance. We finally made it and there were no dogs in sight. As we were
going in a guy pulled up with his two dogs. They ended up going in the
same time we did. He was really cute. One of his dogs tried to attack Ky
before we even got into the park. He just ignored it and pulled his dog
in. Now I have been going to dog parks and other dog places for a while
and I know when dogs are playing(even roughly or loudly) and when one
looks like it is trying to do real harm. When we finally got inside his
dog tried to take a bite out of Ky's face(barely missed). The only thing
he did was warn his dog that he would put her on a leash. Cute with
poor manners. I didn't want his dog who obviously needed some play time
to be put on a leash and I wasn't about to put Ky in known danger so we
left. The park looked spacious with a lot of shade. There was water for
the dogs.
We will probably go back another time.
To treat the two of us
after a good long walk in the park I took us to get snocones. Yum. Ky got one that was just ice and I got a black Cherry one. They were very good.
