5.25.12 Splashing with the Fishes

Well I was thinking I would take Ky kayaking again... this time at Lake Pflugerville. It was kind of windy but I thought we would try it anyway. Unfortunately I forgot that the boat place wasn't open during the week before Memorial Day.  We got there and it was locked up tight and the beach was mostly deserted. That did not stop us from having some swim time fun! We swam around on the outskirts of the swim beach ropes and we accidentally scared some ducks with their babies. Ky chased her new tennis ball in the water.  Over and over and over again. I think I even wore her out! We were the life of the swim beach. She visited the few people that showed up. We saw a really cool kite that some people were flying nearby. It was a good day til later when my sunburn showed up in full force while I was at work.

5.24.12 From Ahhh to Ewwwww to Yuummmm

Started off running late to my massage appointment. (Theme: if you don't know me I am always almost running late ugh!) I made it on time.  :) I found a great place for a massage in Round Rock called "A Zany Do" It is a salon that does everything from toes, waxing, hair, massages, etc. My masseuse is Jennifer and she is wonderful. I always ask for more time. She is my age and is a lot of fun to talk to. I went home and made me some spinach quiche and it was delicious.

After getting totally relaxed and enjoying a great brunch I decided to continue "stay local" week with a trip to Walnut Creek Park. It was recommended to me as an off leash dog park. Ky and I got there and it was mostly deserted. There was a map at the beginning and it looked like a maze of paths all over the area. We took off down a path. We headed toward the creek. I was very disappointed in the creek. There was not a lot of water. And what was there was kind of gross. It was incredibly hot out and there wasn't much else going on. Walnut Creek seems to be more of a dirt bike path than a off leash dog area. A lot of the paths were quite overgrown and I was worried about snakes so I didn't let Ky off leash. I also felt like I was in a horror movie, the kind where the dumb girl is wandering through the woods alone and the scary music is playing in the background. Then the dog gets loose and the girl gets murdered. Later the cops find the dog eating the the girls brains through her eye socket. (yes sometimes these are the things I think about  out on a trail.) Needless to say I wasn't that impressed and unless someone can tell me a spot to go to specifically in Walnut Creek, I might not go back there. (at least not with Ky or in the summer)
The two of us were hot and we had plenty of time so we headed back into Round Rock and over to Memorial Park. I figured Ky could play for a bit in the water and then we could head over to the dog park for socialization. Ky was being particularly stubborn and I had on my new shoes (not the water kind) so I was trying not to get them wet and let her play. I let her off leash but then she started chasing after two people walking by. I got her wrangled back in and had her swimming in the water. I got lazy and was taking my shoes off to get in the water when I noticed Ky rolling around on the ground. Normally she only does it when she is drying off or when she is rolling in something dead.
Guess which one it was this time?
Ky had found a dirty diaper!
And she was rolling on it UGH!!!!
I had to get my shoes back on really quick and go after her yelling her name the whole time. Luckily there wasn't much on her and we did a scrub down in the creek YUK!
I made the executive decision to take her to the dog park because 1) she was now cleaned up and 2) She obviously had tons of energy.
At the dog park she played and rolled in the mud like she normally does. She made a new friend, Eva, a baby doberman who wanted to play. We also ran into Sookie and her owners (They were in Ky's puppy training class).  She got a good hosing down before we headed out and back to the house.
My little sister invited me over for dinner since I actually had off in the evening, so I let Ky stay home because she had had a busy enough day and I went to Kelly's to see her new house. Kelly just moved into a really cute house closer to downtown with a huge backyard. She made some wonderful chicken and penne pasta with asparagus, squash, and crescent rolls. We had a great visit!

5.23.12 Floating Along

First Float of 2012!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Mom, Kelly and I went to New Braunfels today to float the Comal River. Woohoo! I love floating the river. We got out of Round Rock around 9am and went to go pick up Kelly. We took Isaac to school and then started our trip. We stopped at Corner Tubes (our normal tube place) and I got our frequent floater discount!!! Bonus! Because of the new laws, no one can carry anything disposable on the river anymore. But they are finding ways around it. My sister and mom grabbed a beer pouch (a little overpriced at $6) that was supposed to keep the beer cold and carbonated. Of which it worked for neither. I have a small problem with the new laws. Yes it might clear up the trash issue but not the drunk college student issue. Now people will be bringing liquor in non disposable containers instead of drinking beer. My sister didn't believe me until we ran into 2 guys floating who had filled a large bottle with whiskey -no mixers.

We grabbed our tubes and headed down to the lake. The water was cold and it was cloudy outside. It was going to be a chilly ride. It was my first time out with my kodak water camera. It worked really well. The river was up more than it had been at the end of last year. We had a lot of fun and as always I believe in some small way that the river has "healing" powers. The sun showed up and everything got even better. We most of the river to ourselves.

After the river we wanted something to eat but didn't have time to go to Pat's Place. We stopped at Subway and grabbed a quick bite.

5.22.12 A Monumental Lunch

Kyleigh was sent off this morning for a spa day at Action Pack Dog Center. I unfortunately thought she was also going to get a haircut (my main objective in all this). What it did include was a much needed bath, nail trimming, ear cleaning and a blueberry facial. The last one was a bit strange but she did smell better. Mom and I ran some errands and then headed to Georgetown. I wanted to show her my find yesterday. She thought it was great. We walked around a little bit and then headed over to the Monument Cafe. It was an interesting place. Mom had worked there for a day when she was looking for an externship. All the service staff were dressed in chef coats.
Mom got the roast beef special and I got the King Ranch Casserole. I wanted to see the difference between the King Ranch Casserole at Bellini's and the one at Monument Cafe. The one from Bellini's is better I believe because of the smoked chicken. We also tried some super yummy deserts: Chocolate Monument Pie and Blackberry Fried Pie. We had a great lunch. And then headed off to look for some new shoes for work and walking. DSW was no help although I did find a pair of Jeep shoes that although they were ugly, they were still kind of cool. I took a chance and went to the outlets in Round Rock. I was running out of time and needed to get back so I could get to work. We stopped in at Reebok. Luckily I found some slip resistant shoes, and some buy one get one free tennis shoes. We picked up Kyleigh on the way back home and she sure did some like blueberries.

5.21.12 Swimming Hole Paradise

Today was one of those days. Again It took me a while to get going (still recovering from working so late on Saturday). On a whim I decided to check out a place locally that I had heard about from another dog owner. Blue Hole in Georgetown is awesome!!! It is located near downtown by the Monument Cafe. I was totally surprised at this find. There were waterfall, wading areas, swimming spots and cliffs that you are not allowed to dive off of. (and yet I think I might have heard a splash or two)
Ky and I didn't even see if there was any more. We walked across the dam and settled in for some swim time!

Afterwards we once again stopped at Taco Cabana and I noticed a DSW in the area. I was in need of some new work and running shoes. Unfortunately I had to get back so I could go to work.

5.20.12 Isaac Sleepover

My 2 year old nephew spent the night last night and he was up bright and early in the morning. After being at work til 2am last night I had a hard time waking up and getting moving. I was too late going out side to play with him in the new kids pool I had just bought. I did check it out though. It wasn't too bad. There were all kinds of fun kids diving toys in the pool that looked like a floating city. Also took Ky out for another walk and it was way too hot she refused to go very far so we turned around and came back. We got about a mile in total. I also caught Isaac hula hooping except he was doing it his own way. He stepped in the hula hoop and was shaking his butt like he was hula hooping. It was so cute!
